What is Built Environment?

Built Environment refers to our surroundings that are created by humans, for humans and to be used for human activity. It is easily distinguished from the natural environment, for example, buildings, parks, transportation infrastructure, telecommunications networks, and many more.

Build Environment studies are interdisciplinary and often overlap with other aspects such as architecture, engineering, urban planning, geography, history, visual arts, interior design, industrial design, environmental studies and sociology.

Built Environment refers to the man-made surroundings that give the setting to human movement, going in scale from structures and parks or green space to neighbourhoods and urban communities. In other words, we are designing how humans interact with their surroundings. Here in UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College we are focusing on Interior Design and Architecture, and how we can make our surroundings sustainable and comfortable.
